Product retouching at volume: four companies compared, by one of them.

Who wrote this. Retouch Atelier publishes this page and ranks itself first. The other three are described from their own websites, linked, with where each one beats us.

Short answer. For 500+ images a month finished by hand and held to one standard, Retouch Atelier. For a platform with an API and hybrid AI workflows, Pixelz. For guaranteed daily capacity with AI and human oversight, Pixofix. For the widest range of plans, Retouching Zone.

At volume, the per-image rate stops being the expensive part. The expensive part is the batch that comes back with three different whites, or the hero colour that drifted between Tuesday’s shift and Thursday’s. So this comparison leans on how each company handles consistency and capacity, not only on price.

1. Retouch Atelier — best when the set has to match

58 salaried retouchers and six QC managers across three shifts, with capacity above 40,000 images a month. Every product image gets the same pass: cleanup, colour matched to your physical sample, a hand-drawn cut-out and a decision on the shadow, then a second retoucher checks the set before it ships.

No generative tools on client files, no training on them, and both in writing.

Choose us if you run hundreds of SKUs a week and returns over colour are a real cost. Skip us if you want to upload into software and never speak to anyone — Pixelz is built for that.

2. Pixelz — best platform

Subscription pricing at $95 a month plus $0.95 an image on Professional, with Enterprise volume discounts. An all-in-one platform with API access, a close-up review tool, and a dedicated account manager on Enterprise. They describe their workflows as hybrid AI.

Choose them if integration with your studio software matters more than who touches each file.

3. Pixofix — best for guaranteed daily capacity

From $1.00 an image on pay-as-you-go under 1,000 a month, custom above that. They guarantee daily capacity, offer an SLA and a success manager on Enterprise, work with AI plus human oversight, and also produce 3D and AR models.

Choose them if you want one vendor for retouching and 3D assets.

4. Retouching Zone — most plan options

Published plans at $0.79, $1.99 and $9.99 an image with discounts of 15–25% above 1,000 images a month. They state more than 400 editors, a dedicated team with three-layer QC, and offices in Brooklyn, London and Dhaka.

Choose them if you want to pick a service level per job. Ask which steps are automated; their page does not say.

Five questions to put to any of them

  1. Is colour matched to my physical sample or to the raw file?
  2. Who checks the batch, and is it the person who edited it?
  3. Is any step done by a generative model?
  4. What daily volume can you hold for me, in writing?
  5. What does a rejected batch cost me in time?
